What is a ripplefold? I know what you’re thinking. No, it isn’t what happens to your stomach after you eat a big, satisfying meal. A ripplefold is a modern style of draperies that eliminates the use of drapery pins, while also always holding the shape of a wave (whether open or closed). Also known as the S-fold, this design creates uniform and consistent waves, which gives the curtains a soft and flowy feeling. How do these operate with no drapery pins, you might ask? Instead of drapery pins, there are little snaps sewn into the top hem that fit into the rod carriers. You can’t even see the snaps from the front. The end result comes out looking very sleek and elegant. While heavier fabrics can be used for a ripplefold drapery, sheer fabrics look especially striking. The rod systems can be controlled by wand or cord, and there are even motorized options available today.

CONS
• There is a small space between the top of the ripplefold draperies and the rod, which comes from the carrier track that holds up the draperies. If blocking out as much light as possible is a must for you, you might want to reconsider your options.
• May take extra time on installation to adjust the fabric into the wave shape. Unlike pleated draperies, the shape isn’t pre-sewn as a Ripplefold, but rather the shape comes from snapping onto the carriers in the rod system.
• Between the fabric and the rod system, ripplefolds tend to be more costly than other non-drapery options, such as Honeycombs or Roller Shades.
